PROJECT: Stairs
LOCATION: All over
DATE: 1965 - ongoing
At Cullinans we sometimes have the opportunity to design special stairs that celebrate their function of allowing people to move between the vertical levels of a building. This creative solution page shows five staircases we have designed, each very different in terms of form, materials and construction.
- Stair 1: A helical stair made from laminated douglas fir timber at Edinburgh Royal Botanic Garden (images 1 and 2)
- Stair 2: A refined elliptical concrete stair at Kew Royal Botanic Gardens (images 3 and 4)
- Stair 3: A top-lit spiral stair around a lift for Divinity College, Cambridge (images 5 and 6)
- Stair 4: A colourful cantilevered glass stair criss-crossing a narrow atrium at Forest Gate Community School (images 7 and 8)
- Stair 5: The world's first reader tower stair. A spiral stair for studying students at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (images 9 and 10)
