This two-form primary school, community hall, and early years centre opened in the Spring of 2001, along with the Health Centre. Designed to work together they sit at the heart of the Millennium Village.
The School & Health Centre both face south over landscaped gardens and playgrounds and are fully glazed with automatic protective awnings allowing the buildings to benefit from useful passive solar gain and daylighting, while keeping out the heat from the summer sun. There more public elevations are wrapped in rippling vertical larch boarding.
These low energy buildings provide a new kind of facility for this new community, integrating education and primary health care on one site.
For more information on the larch used in the construction of school and health centre visit the Trada website and read the case study.
